The Northern Lights can be seen from Kiruna town but the lights are best when far away from any light source.įor example, some of the best Northern Lights that you might see are are when you driving between towns as there is no light at all. No trip up north would be the same without searching for the Northern Lights. You can choose to drive your own sled or be driven by a guide, relax and enjoy the views. Being pulled by a team of dogs in the snow with utter silence surrounding you allows you to be able to appreciate the stunning nature. The best activity is dog sledding in the Lapland countryside. Kiruna developed because of a very large iron mine and apart from the mine and the town itself, there is nothing but snow, forest and wilderness. It is the most northern town in Sweden, and it feels like it is in a world of its own. The easiest way to explore is to rent a car, but you can also book tours to some of the most popular attractions, such as National Parque El Teide.
